Samsung unveiled their new flagship phablet, the Note5 in August, 2015.

There aren’t three people who’ve told us that its not a huge improvement. We looked and looked. Everyone we spoke to is absolutely enchanted with how great the upgraded Note looks!

It now has a premium feel, a very purposeful look built on a sturdy design that just feels solid.

The Note5 has a super-fast processor, an improved rear camera, S-Pen stylus and a new glass-and-metal design which is a huge step up from the cheap, textured plastic of its predecessor.

The basic shape of the phablet is almost the same as the Note 4. Having said that, the construction of the two phones is completely different. The Note 4’s faux leather back (which was actually made of plastic) has been replaced by a glass sheet infused into a metal frame. The front and the back of the phone are Gorilla Glass 4.

The S-Pen stylus is skinnier and slides into an almost-non existent slot at the bottom. At 7.6 mm phone itself, is thinner than its predecessor. All of this does come at a cost though.

First off, the 5.7 inch height makes it a little difficult to grip the phone; and the satiny glass-and-metal finish does make it feel a little slippery. Also, like the Galaxy S6, the Note5 comes with a back that’s sealed-shut, meaning that there is no longer a removable battery and also no expandable storage. The 3000 mAh battery though is a substantive one and should last you well.

Hardware wise, the Note5 uses Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 octa-core processor that is backed by 4 GB of RAM. It runs on Android 5.1.1 and comes with two storage options: 32 and 64 GB.

The 5.7 inch display (1440×2560 pixels at 518 ppi), is going to be the big winner for the Note5. Not only is it pretty fantastic with great contrast, it’s also got very good outdoor visibility. With a screen this good and a hardworking processor, you will be productive wherever you may find yourself.

It’s big, sure, but it doesn’t bother you like the Nexus 6 would, because Samsung has thought this through better – as an example, Samsung has swapped the positions of the Back and Recent Apps’ soft keys. The reason, the Back is generally used a lot more than the other one and since most people’s right hand will be the freer one (and also due to the stylus being on that side), it makes sense to put the Back button on the right. Smart thinking!

The Samsung Galaxy Note5 ships with a 16 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization. The front camera is a 5 megapixel selfie-shooter. The lenses on both front and rear are wide angle ones, which means that group shots can involve more people.

The rear camera is delightful to use in most occasions, but do not expect to do a take of video with it.
