At last, after eons, Nokia has re-entered the smartphone arena. The arrival date has been burned into the technological calendar, signing off what can now be the start of a new history of the erstwhile giant.

The company has entered the market with three phones, one of which is this, the Nokia 5.

Launched in February 2017, the Nokia 5 is armed with a 5.2 inch touchscreen display with an HD (720p resolution). You’ll be able to pick the Nokia 5 up in four different colours: Copper, Black, Silver and Blue.

The 720p HD display is bright and clear, providing a decent level of detail to images and text alike. You’ll be able to comfortably read emails, watch videos and enjoy gaming sessions on the good looking phone.

The Nokia 5 comes in Nokia’s age-old tradition of zombie-apocalypse-ready phones, yet one is pleased to see the premium look and the sturdy metal design of the phone. Also, unlike other phones, its not a fingerprint magnet.

The smartphone is equipped with the stock version of Google Android 7 Nougat operating system, which means you don’t get an interface which is too loaded with company flagship apps. It gives you a clean, fresh slate to start from, and heading to the Play Store you can make sure the Nokia 5 only has the apps you want.

The chipset is Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430, which runs on an octa core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. Needless to say, you won’t have any trouble completing your day-to-day work on this slim block.

As for cameras – well you won’t be disappointed – wait till you hear this. The Nokia 5 has a 13 megapixel rear camera, coupled with an 8 megapixel front camera to fulfil all your selfie needs. You’ll also be able to record video at 1080p, but you’ll have to view your video recordings on a computer if you want to view it in Full HD.

You get 16 GB of internal storage, but that can be built upon, via a microSD card up to 128 GB in size, which means you’ll have plenty of room for all your apps, games, photos and videos.

In some regions the phone will arrive with three card slots, allowing for two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time, giving users greater flexibility.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). Sensors on the phone include Compass Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.

As far as the battery woes go, this phone has just the right amount of juice to fill your daily needs. The sizeable 3,000 mAh battery is non removable and that suits us perfectly nowadays.

The rounded edged phone fits in the budget range perfectly, but as a Nokia phone it feels as a middle child of the three, the price range of ~ INR 14,000 gives you a chance of putting more money to buy the Nokia 6, which is obviously a better choice.

All in all, should you go with the Nokia 5, you aren’t going to rue that decision!
