Motorola introduced itself into the Indian budget phone market with its Moto G4 range.

Currently there are two phablets in this sub-series — the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus and of the two, the G4 Plus is the premium one.
The two phones, however, do share a lot.

Focusing on the G4 Plus, this phablet carries a 5.5 inch Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which seems to go with the standard screen size in the market presently. It runs on Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with two variations of RAM – 2 GB and 3 GB.

Storage wise, there’s are 16 GB and 32 GB variants, both of which are expandable to 128 GB.

The smartphone comes with a 3000 mAh battery that comes with TurboPower fast charging support. Xiaomi and Yunicorn have Moto beat on battery capacity, with their 4000 mAh batteries, but you should be safe enough with the Moto’s product too – the battery should easily last a day which is quite alright (since you’d be charged overnight anyway).

The phone is a dual-SIM product that comes with 4G with VoLTE support, and scoots along on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, which is the latest version and is at par with the market standards.

The G4 Plus has a 16 megapixel  rear camera, which has most phones in the range beat. It has laser focus and phase detect auto-focus to enhance the pictures. The 5 megapixel front  camera has a wide angle lens.

Additionally, the fingerprint scanner is going to be the phone’s star feature. “Unlike some phones, Moto G5 Plus recognizes your fingerprint no matter which way you hold it”, Motorola says.
It is said to read your finger in under 750 milliseconds, which is quite good. The fingerprint scanner also puts the phone back in the league with Xiaomi, LeEco, and Asus devices – something that the G4 lacks.

The budget phone market in India has been getting more intense every day with new devices every day. Motorola seems to be cashing in on the same wave, with Moto G4. It is all set to give competition to LeEco Le 2, Le 1s Eco, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, YU Yunicorn and others in the sub-15,000 range. What is worth noting is that the Moto G range is now entirely under Lenovo’s control and it’s good to see that Moto’s brand ethos is still intact, and Lenovo’s business savvy is taking into new market domains.
