LG’s new ‘V’ series of smartphones introduced via the LG V10 (released in October 2015) is a breath of fresh air, as far as the Android ecosystem is concerned.

This is the company’s latest attempt to capture a corner of the Premium Smartphone market by making an impression that lasts. With the first device of the series featuring a unique form factor, new multimedia capabilities and enhanced durability, LG’s latest flagship offering does bring a lot to the table, but again, is it enough? Let’s find out!

The LG V10 sports a massive 5.7 inch IPS LCD display with a quad-HD resolution (1440x2560p) and a mammoth 515 ppi. The display is beautiful, sharp, bright and easy to see outdoors – exactly what you’d expect from LG. Media consumption and gaming centric users will certainly appreciate the large size.

The main USP of this phablet is the “secondary screen” – basically it performs a plethora of ad-hoc functions – as a hub for notifications, lists application shortcuts and recently-opened apps, houses media controls, displays favorite contacts and upcoming calendar events. It also displays basic information like the time and date when the main display isn’t on. All of these can be adjusted and modified in the Settings menu.
That said, this secondary display is a little hard to reach especially during single-handed use, considering the gargantuan size of the phone – over 3 inches wide, and taller than six and a quarter inches, which makes the diagonal reach greater than seven inches!!

Even Hulk (of Avengers fame) would have a tough time reaching across the screen one-handed!

Under the hood, the LG V10 comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, clocked at 1.82 GHz, and backed by the Adreno 418 graphics processor. Thankfully, there’s 4 gigabytes of RAM supporting this behemoth of a screen.

Overall, the UI is fast and extremely smooth with fluid animations and scrolling. Even with LG’s somewhat bloated software experience, the processing hardware keeps everything moving along just fine, and there were no instances of any noticeable slow down we experienced.

Storage wise, you get 64 GB of internal storage on this phablet with a microSD card slot to further expand this by upto 200 GB. LG’s V10 comes loaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and runs without any stutter whatsoever, period.

Cameras: There’s a 16 megapixel camera out back, with an f/1.8 aperture, laser autofocus, OIS and LED flash. Images are sharp, with a lot of detail and accurate color reproduction, and the dynamic range is fantastic, making for a camera experience that is very enjoyable.

Another USP: The device comes with not one, but two front-facing 5 megapixel cameras!
Explanation – the two cameras are individual front-facing shooters, with one featuring an 80-degree lens for a more standard field of view, while the other comes with a 120-degree wide angle lens.
You can toggle back and forth between the two within the camera software and choose the one you want to use for any shot. The 120-degree wide angles lens comes in handy when trying to take group shots. The overall quality of these front-facing cameras is quite good as well.

The DSLR-like manual controls that were debuted with the LG G4 last year make a return on this year’s flagship.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor, fast battery charging in the form of QuickCharge 2.0.

The LG V10 comes in the following colours: Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue, Opal Blue.
