e-readers have only recently caught on in the non-first-world markets like India, with Amazon’s Kindle being the most popular one for now.
The only other e-reader that has caught on in the market has been Nook, again by an American brand, Barnes and Noble.

Amazon’s Kindle has many versions, the Paperwhite one being the most popular and pocket-friendly one.
A tablet-like device aimed specifically at readers, all Kindles are plugged into a gargantuan database of ebooks you can buy. Thus, Amazon’s Kindle line has proven to be probably the best devices for voracious readers.

One of the models of the Kindle is called Voyage. Priced at USD 199, the Voyage was launched in 2014. It was a huge success, in fact, after the Paperwhite, the Voyage seems to have brought the next revolution to the e-reader market.

Since the Kindle Paperwhite and Voyage share a lot, we shall mostly talk about what is different and improved.

The major change in the device can be seen from the hardware itself. The Voyage is the usual colour, somewhere between dark grey and black, and has a 6-inch display quite like the Paperwhite and even the USD 79 entry-level Kindle.
At 7.6 mm (compare that to 9.1 mm for the Paperwhite), the Voyage is the thinnest Kindle that Amazon has.

A major improvement can be seen on the touch as well as the display. The Voyage has a full-flush display, which blows away all the cheap-looking displays that have been accepted on e-readers for a long time. It’s 300 dpi display is the best-ever screen on an e-Ink Kindle.
The flush mounting also makes the simple action of moving your thumb an inch or two to change pages a more seamless, effortless motion, because you’re not navigating a change in terrain along the way. While this might seem like a small thing initially – but when you are talking about hundreds of pages being read every week, this makes a lot of difference.

The Voyage also has a new feature called PagePress.
PagePress is a pair of gray lines and dots on either side of the front bezel can be touched lightly to advance the page or go back. What this means is that even though the touch on the screen has been bettered, you may never have to use that touch-to-advance or go-back feature during your read.

While there isn’t much of a change in the lightening of the screen, the feature itself is a game-changer in it’s product category, as it makes the device usable in any light at all.

In the effervescent world of tablets, any brand needs to work hard, to be noticed. You can always make them thinner, last longer, have better resolution and more features. But there is only so much you can do with a Kindle.

With Paperwhite already lasting a month in the battery, already being as thin as you could want it, and having all the desirable features one could ask without turning the e-reader into a tablet computer, one would think there wasn’t much scope for Amazon to work with.
With Voyage, Amazon did it anyway. And did it well.

In the e-reader market that is today, Amazon’s Kindle pretty much dominates the market. There are very many devices out there by different companies because a device is not enough, what is also needed is a database and service to connect the device to.

Given the high prices a restrictive utility, a lot of users might more likely to stick to the Paperwhite, which is still priced at USD 119. Amazon’s Voyage, however, is there to stay, and it certainly has made a space for itself in the last two years.
