follow link PRISMA, an app by Prisma labs, inc. transforms your photos into works of art using the styles of famous artists in addition to famous ornaments and patterns. A unique combination of neural networks and artificial intelligence helps you turn memorable moments into timeless art pieces and going by the images modified using the app popping up on various social media, the app seems to have caught the fancy of many iOS and Android users.

Prism allows you to either click  pic through the app or select an existing photograph in your camera library. The picture is then cropped to a 1:1 ratio and the user is given the options of the numerous filters (from the 20 that come with the app) to modify the image.

The app offers:

  1. Modern art / photo filters (more than 30 styles)!
  2. Stunning photo effects
  3. Fast sharing

The one thing we did not like was the time taken. When you select an image and apply a filter , it takes in the neighborhood of 20 seconds for the image to be rendered for you with the filter to take effect, and if you want to explore another filter, keeping adding. it can get pretty annoying.

Another tip: if you want to remove the annoying PRISMA watermark on the lower right side, go into settings and uncheck “Add Watermark option”.

The app is free for now so go ahead and explore it, however do be careful of the fake copies.

For iOS, it needs iOS 8 or later and for Android 4.1 and above.

Microsoft Pix

Pix, a new app by Microsoft brings artificial intelligence (AI) to your mobile camera app.  The USP of the app, released for iPhone and iPad, is minimal setting options, as it largly takes away the ability for you to play with your settings in the app, with minimal remaining to shoot photos and videos, use of editing tools, filters, gallery view, and sharing.  The app wants you to point and shoot to capture the moment while enjoying being a part of it and the app manipulates the photo for you to render beautifuly all on its own, allowing some minor modifications.

When you click a photograph, the app automatically captures 10 frames, analyses them and selects the best with additions from the other frames to get the best in noise reduction, ISO, exposure, brightness and more. The app recognizes faces in the photographs and prioritizes the photograph rendition on the same and with the auto sync feature you do not need to worry about loosing your photographs. A toggle button allows you to compare between the image you capture and the image the app suggests after making relevant changes. Microsoft Pix uses multiple technologies to provide true, accurate color for skin tones, food, and foliage, as well as accurate exposure and detail in both the shadow and the highlight areas of the photo.

Pix allows you to capture “Live Images”, which are similar to the Apple’s Live Photos. The app however does not allow for this feature to be turned off, and is activated when the app senses relevant movement behind the subject, like people dancing, movement of plants, flowing water stream. So, when the Microsoft Pix detects interesting motion in your shot, it will automatically stitch the burst frames into a short looping video which are the “live Images”.

When you shift to the videos, you have image stabilization and one can use Microsoft’s Hyperlapse technology for creating looping time lapse videos. You can upload on Vimeo and Instagram amongst others using iOS sharing, so you can seamlessly share to the apps already installed on your phone.

Summary of the Top 10 Coolest Features:
• Smart settings – Automatically checks scene and lighting between each shutter tap, and updates settings between each shot.
• Face recognition – When it detects a face in the shot, it automatically optimizes settings to help people look their best.
• Moment capture – Captures a burst of frames every time you tap the shutter button, including frames before and after your tap, so you won’t miss the right moment.
• Best Image – Automatically selects up to 3 of the best and most unique shots from the burst, and immediately deletes the rest, so you don’t waste your phone’s memory or your time comparing and storing similar frames.
• Image quality – Uses discarded burst frames to enhance each Best Image, improving exposure and color, and reducing noise and blur.
• Live Image – Automatically creates a short, looping video, by stitching together the frames from the burst into a Live Image, but ONLY when it senses motion in your shot, so it won’t waste a ton of your phone’s memory.
• Hyperlapse – Videos shot with Microsoft Pix are automatically stabilized for smoother playback, and can be time lapsed and saved at many different speeds.
• Auto-sync – Seamlessly syncs to your camera roll, so you don’t have to individually import or save your photos and videos to your camera roll.
• Easy sharing – Uses iOS sharing, so you can seamlessly share to the apps already installed on your phone.
